The Role of Information Technology For Service Sector Performance

Abstract

This study gives an overview about the role that information technology (ICT) plays in the innovation process. Three research areas are addressed: the role of ICT as a driver of product and process innovation, ICT-based firm strategies, in particular service outsourcing allowing for flexibility, and the impacts of innovation on productivity and employment. The study takes a primarily microeconomic, firm-level perspective and focuses on empirical work.
